Eco-Friendly Wedding Transport: Sustainable Travel Tips for Guests

Why Eco Friendly Wedding Transportation Can be a Headache

Organizing sustainable transportation for the some of your guests at an eco-friendly wedding can be challenge. Here we shared some of our favorite ideas for environmentally friendly wedding transport, but today we will provide some practical steps and examples to help ensure your guests arrive in style while also minimizing their carbon footprint.

Ways to Coordinate Eco-Friendly Transportation for Your Wedding Guests

Choose a Centralized Location

One way to diminish transportation emissions with little effort is to select a wedding venue that's in a central location and easily reachable. This cuts down the travel distances most of your guests need to munch through and makes eco-friendly transport easier to organize. For example if many of your guests are from Manchester you might want to choose venues in or around Greater Manchester: that way everyone's journey time and distance will be minimized.

Provide Clear and Detailed Information

Make sure your guests have plenty of options regarding transportation. Provide full directions, timetables and relevant information to help your guests travel in an eco-friendly manner. In fact, include this sort of information on your invitations or wedding website. It can be a great help to create a special section complete with maps, public transport links and car sharing options.

Encourage Public Transport

Public transport is often the most environmentally sustainable way to travel. You can encourage guests to use it by providing information on how: reach your site by train, bus or tram etc. For instance you might include a note such as: “The nearest train station to our location is Elmwood Station 10 minutes by taxi or 20 minutes on the 15B bus from the venue.”

Group travel arrangements

If you charter coaches or minibuses for group transport, it will greatly reduce the number of individual car journeys. This will mean fewer emissions overall. Arrange for a coach to pick guests up from a central point, such as a major railway station or the hotel where a large number of guests are staying. Not only does this lower emissions, it also ensures guests arrive on time.

Encourage Shared Rides

If guests are traveling by car, remind them to give lifts; this can be done through carpooling apps or simply posting a notice on your wedding website. Post a message like this: “We have a carpooling page on our site where if you are driving to the wedding and looking for a ride or can share with someone else, arrange it here. Not only we cut down on emissions; we meet new friends!”

Choose Electric or Hybrid Cars

If you hire cars, rent electric or hybrid models. Many car hire companies now offer green models. Try a company like EcoDrive Rentals, which specializes in low-emission hire cars.

Let Bicycles Be An Option

For venues which are reachable by bike, give information on cycling paths and a place to store bikes. You might want to add a line such as: “For our keen bikers, there is secure bike parking at the venue. We suggest coming here from the Greenway Cycle Route nearby.”

Balance Carbon Emissions

It's difficult to avoid some emissions at all despite your best efforts. Purchase carbon offsets to counteract the environmental impact of your guests’ travel. You might say: “We are partnering with Green Earth Initiative to offset the carbon emissions from our wedding. If you would like to help too, we have a wedding offset cushy job.”

These implementations allow you to be not only beautiful and unforgettable with your wedding, but also environmentally responsible.
